The Scoop Reporter E-Z is an extremely adaptable codec that will handle POTS calls as well as ISDN. While ISDN certainly is the standard for broadcast remotes, there are still situations with limited advance notice or where ISDN simply isn’t available. In those situations, broadcasters can take advantage of the POTS capability that will guarantee you get on the air, anywhere, anytime!

The Scoop Reporter E-Z uses the CELP (Code Excited Linear Prediction) algorithm, which was developed specifically for use over analog phone lines. By integrating a V34 modem, the Scoop Reporter uses the CELP algorithm to achieve 7.5kHz audio with a simple 24kbps connection, or 8.4kHz audio at 28.8kpbs, from standard telephone lines anywhere in the world. With the audio quality very close to G.722 and the low coding delay inherent to CELP, the Scoop Reporter II can be used in critical live broadcasts. As the ultimate in ISDN back-up solutions, the unit reverts back to a standard phone connection when a digital connection is not possible.
The integration of ISDN and MPEG Layer II makes the Scoop Reporter E-Z extremely versatile
for live broadcasts. With ISDN undoubtedly the standard for live remotes, ATA has come up with a portable codec offering all the right features to guarantee you get on the air, anywhere, anytime!

Starting with the ISDN section, the terminal adapter is approved in 42 countries around the world and comes with a standard U interface or optional S/T ensuring a “no hassle” install. A speed dial directory with 99 presets allows call profiles to be configured, including algorithm, one or two B-channel operation and ISDN numbers. Another great feature is adherence to the newer international ITU J.52 format, which standardizes error protection and framing information, ensuring more stable ISDN connections.

The user can choose from a selection of data rates, sampling rates and algorithms depending on the type of material or codec at the other end. With MPEG Layer II, the unit can be operated at either 64kbps for voice or 128kbps for music providing 10.5kHz and 20kHz, respectively. In situations where coding delay is a concern, such as a live interview, G.722 will provide a 64kbps/7kHz connection with less than 10ms of delay.
