Introduction:

Portanet is the all-new portable, IP & ISDN full duplex, two channel, multi algorithm audio codec. Compact, lightweight, and easy to use, PortaNet is a commentator box with all ProntoNet functionalities.

Portanet is based on the ProntoNet IP & ISDN dual audio codec. Portanet can send and receive simultaneouly via IP thorugh its Ethernet port (10/100BaseTX), and can connect to ISDN codecs through Its built in 1-BRI terminal adapter, which supports U and S/T interfaces and the following ISDN protocols: EISDN, AT5ESS, DMS100 and NAT1.

Portanet comes fitted with the widest range of industry-standard coding algorithms: G711, G722, MPEG 1/2 Layer II/III, MPEG2/4 AAC LC, MPEG4 AAC LD, Apt-X and PCM (uncompressed linear audio over IP), which offers great flexibility by enabling compatibility with connections to third party codecs. Like ProntoNet, Portanet can automatically detect the calling codec and synchronize to It.

Portanet can be controlled from Its top panel, through a large, easy to use, navigate menu display, or via remote control, through Its embedded Web Page, or thorugh the ProdysControl application, from which one can control all the Prodys audio codecs (ProntoNet, Pronto2/3, Kronos E1/T1 Multiplexer, PortaNet...).

Specifications:

AUDIO

·4 XLR balanced mic inputs (switchable for mic, line and 48V. phantom power) each with independent level control.
·Channel assignament (main or talkback) buttons for each input.
·Input level indicator for program channel.
·Limiter after program mixer input.
·Tree 6.35mm jack headphone outputs with independent channel (local/return) and level controls. The headphone mix funtion let users monitor local, return audio or a mix of the two for both, the main program and the talkback program.
·Two XLR male, electronically balanced outputs, as auxiliary outputs. These outputs are totally configurable, so that each one can be assigned to monitor send, receive audio or a mix of them, for both the main and the talkback program.

ENCODING

· Many industry-standard compression modes: G711, G722, MPEG 1/2 Layer II/III, MPEG2/4 AAC LC & MPEG4 AAC LD , Apt-X standard and enhanced, and PCM (uncompressed linear audio) for IP networks of sufficient bandwidth.

COMMUNICATIONS

·Built-in 1-BRI ISDN terminal adapter. S/T and U interfaces. Protocols: EISDN, DMS100, NAT1 and AT5ESS.

·Ethernet 10/100BaseTX interface: Full industry-standard TCP/UDP/IP connectivity. No special networking required. The following protocols are provided:

  • DHCP: IP address auto configuration.
  • RIP2: Internal/Alias IP addresses can be assigned.
  • SNTP: Clock synchronization.
  • SNMP: Remote monitoring over SNMP protocol.
  • HTTP: An embedded Web server allows the user to monitor/configure the unit from a Web Browser. An ActiveX dynamic Web Page offers full real time monitoring.
  • IGMP: This protocol deals with Multicast traffic.
  • ICMP: IP control protocol.

Portanet supports both unicast and multicast IP audio streaming connections.

·Streaming advance features:

· Jitter correction buffer. This adjustable buffer avoids audio dropouts compensating for up to 500mS of jitter in the IP connection.
· The unit automatically adjusts in synchronisation with the transmitter site rate, to give a constant delay in IP communications.
· The codec provides a test tool which allows the user to check the bandwidth, delay and jitter in the IP connection. This information can be used to adjust the streaming parameters and so, to obtain the best-quality in the real-time audio reception.

Local or remotely (TCP/IP) upgrading of one or several units at once using the same utility, which is also compatible with ProntoNet units. Factory sofware updates can be downloaded

AUXILIARY DATA

Two RS232 Ancillaty Data ports, for data transmission, such as RDS.

GPIO

2-GPIOs gives the possibility to connect to automation systems: Remote contact closure to send control signal with the compressed bit stream.

ALARMS

Real Time alarms management through SNMP traps.
The alarms are saved in non-volatile memory. It is possible to have an historical log of events even if the unit was disconnected from the network.

BACKUP

Integral backup feature to assure program continuity, in the event of a failure of the main line. ISDN can be used as a back line line in the event of a failure of the IP or X21 lines.
